The app’s popularity exploded during the COVID-19 pandemic, and its invitation-only profile-creation system, along with its availability solely on Apple iOS, created an air of exclusivity. It even had companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Discord, Spotify, Reddit, and Slack gearing up to create competing products.
