HP Scanjet scanning systems will allow you to specify a resolution of up to 999,999 enhanced dpi. In addition, by using lower dpi and high scale factors (enlarging the image using dimension or re-size tool), you can achieve a very high enhanced dpi. However, it is important to note that the maximum resolution that can be actually achieved depends upon various factors, including computer speed, available disk space, memory, the size of the image being scanned, and bit-depth settings. Thus, depending on your system and what you are scanning, you may not be able to scan at certain resolutions. For example, using the same image and same dpi, scanning in 24-bit color requires at least 24 times more memory (in the form of hard disk space and available memory) than scanning in 1-bit black and white. In addition, the size of the area being scanned is very important. For example, scanning a 4 x 6-inch photograph at 999,999 enhanced dpi and 24-bit color requires over 64 terabytes of disk space; thus, if your computer has a 50 gigabyte hard disk, which would be quite large, such a scan would require over 1,000 disks. Even a 1/10th-inch square area, scanned at 999,999 enhanced dpi as a 1-bit black and white image (not 24-bit color), creates an uncompressed file of over 9 gigabytes. | | The maximum dpi at which you can scan is limited by available computer memory, disk space, and other system factors. | | | Hardware scanning resolution | | | Scan resolution, optical | | | Scanner type | | | Scan size (ADF), maximum | | | Scan size (ADF), maximum | | | Scan size ADF (minimum) | | | Scan size ADF (minimum) | | | Scan size (flatbed), maximum | | | Scan size (flatbed), maximum | | | Automatic document feeder speed | | | Automatic document feeder speed | | | Scan speed footnote | | Actual processing speeds may vary depending on scan resolution, network conditions, computer performance, and application software. | | | Scan speed OCR (A4) | | | Scan speed in preview mode | | | Scan speed | | 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 in) color photo to Microsoft Word: less than 24 sec, to share/e-mail: less than 18 sec; OCR Letter/A4 text page to Microsoft Word: less than 36 sec | | | Transparent materials adapter (supported) | | | Scan technology | | Charge Coupled Device (CCD) | | | Color scanning | | | Levels of grayscale | | | Light source (scanning) | | | Auto document feeder capacity for photo paper | | | Scanning options (ADF) | | | Transparency adapter | | Satellite (TMA); three 35 mm slides or four 35 mm negative frames | | | Twain version | | | Software | | Software included | | HP Photosmart software for Windows® (Windows® XP x64, Windows® 2000 support available as Web download), CD-ROM(s) for Microsoft® Windows® and Macintosh, I.R.I.S.
